You can only FaceTime and FT Audio w/ out SIM. Yes, you will need a sim card, check to see if the phone is GSM or CDMA to find capable networks.

(icloud eMails can only text and facetime. No calling, as you’d need some form of a landline or a SIM linked)

Also what iPhone model is this, you may need a SIM card adapter if it’s older (I think iPhone 4 and below..)

You can’t make calls if you don’t have cellular... All iPhones have cellular capacities, Do you not have a SIM card or are we talking about an iPod?

You need a cell connection to call..

A cell apple watch just means you can call from it without having your iphone nearby..

If they both have CELL/SIM for the phone.
