The sole option available is "Digital Out" ...making it impossible for me to access the internal speakers. Any ideas how to resolve this anyone?

Sorry I missed your return reply.
Try resetting the NVRAM, as per > Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
If that doesn't help?
Then I would still suspect a sticky micro switch, a bluetooth audio device or some type of third party audio software.

If there is nothing plugged into the headphone port? Then the micro switch inside of the headphone port is most likely stuck. You may be able to get the internal micro switch to un-stick by plugging, jiggling and unplugging a headphone jack several times. But if that doesn't help, then you need to either make a service appointment or optionally use a USB audio adapter.
I believe it is a software problem, sometimes it works, sometimes it don't...
Thanks, I'll try that as soon as possible and I'll let you know.
You’re welcome.
It worked for a couple of hours and then it's back to no sound. The interesting thing is that it starts with that familiar sound all Macs do when starting up.
