Frame by Frame Video Editing

I did this edit on photoshop since I couldn't find what I want on Google and I believe its because I'm not searching with the right words.

To try to explain; the original video of the edit above would show me opening up a door. Instead, I want to cut the video frame by frame to show a video that will be playing underneath it to make a "transition" of some sort. I know this is possible in premiere pro as I saw a video a while back but I can't seem to find a way of doing this in Final Cut Pro X.

Editing frame by frame can be done. You would blade each frame (command-B) and then you could apply a mask to reveal whatever is behind the clip, then blade again, adjust the mask, blade again, and so on. Very tedious, but you can do it.

Now you could achieve a similar result with much less work. Just create an animated clip of a door, with transparency. That is something one could do in Motion or Blender and then import to FCP; or better yet, use it to create an effect in Motion and use at will in FCP.
