How do I separate Apple Music accounts on Family Sharing?

My family has had the Family subscription to Apple Music for a little over a year now. There are 5 of us on the subscription but all of our playlists and downloaded songs appear on everyone's devices. For example, I can see the playlists my brother makes and he can see the ones I make. I saw that everyone can have their own account on a Family subscription, but how do I do that after my subscription has already been set up? I don't want to be able to see my family's playlists, I only want my own in my library. I can't find information about this anywhere and the one response I did, the guy said to remove everyone from Family Sharing and re-add them. I did this and it still did not work. PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi there kpanagakis31,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

It sound as though that when other family members create a playlist or add a song to the library in Apple Music that it’s happening on all members devices.

You’re in the right place, we’d be glad to assist in seeking a solution.

It sounds as though a Family Sharing is already setup, and the same Apple ID is being used for all devices in the Family Sharing group. If that sounds correct, each family member can create their own Apple ID. That way, services such as Apple Music would sync only to devices using that Apple ID.

This resource can help with creating new Apple ID’s:

How to create a new Apple ID

Additionally, these resource can help with inviting family members into Family Sharing and with setting up an Apple Music family subscription if not already setup:

We hope this helps,

Cheers!

kpanagakis31,

Thank you for replying back with the updated information around what you’re seeing with Apple Music.

We understand that each family member has a separate Apple ID.

To verify, is each device signed into it’s own Apple ID for both iCloud and the iTunes & App Store? These steps can be used to check:

  • Tap Settings > [your name] and verify the correct Apple ID is signed in, and then on that same page tap iTunes & App Store to verify the correct Apple ID is signed in: Sign in with your Apple ID

We’d also advise verifying the settings for Family Sharing and the Apple Music Family subscription .

  • To check, tap Settings> [your name] > Family Sharing > Apple Music.

These steps can be used to verify what subscription is being used for Apple Music as well a list of the family members added to the Family Sharing.

When accessing this settings page to view the subscription for Apple Music, is the subscription listed as Apple Music Family?

Keep us posted,

Cheers!

kpanagakis31,

Thank you for replying back! We understand that you signed into the iTunes & App Store with your own Apple ID. To verify, are you also signed into iCloud as well with your own Apple ID?

Thank you for your response. We have been using my mom’s Apple ID for iTunes and App Store for years now and I signed into my own Apple ID for the iTunes and App Store now. It is telling me that my mom is sharing an Apple Music Subscription with me but when I go to the Music app it is telling me to start a free trial, but in my settings it’s saying I’m already being shared a Family subscription of Apple Music.
