I can't find where to tell the progress of an iPhone being restored from iTunes.

I'm moving from my phone to another phone while my phone goes in for repairs. I backed my phone up using iTunes, and now I'm restoring the backup to the new/temporary phone. I can't figure out how to see where things stand and nothing I've found on the internet covers this. Everybody is talking about the iCloud, which I can't use for backups.

Look at the top right of iTunes you should see a small circle spinning click on it once it will show you the progress. Then after that's done you will see the progress bar Lawerence mentioned

I agree, and it’s even worse with Macs running Catalina, where you sync and restore with Finder rather than iTunes (which no longer exists on Macs, instead replaced by Music, Podcasts and TV). Although the problem isn't Finder specifically, it’s the fact that it shows even less progress than iTunes did.

You can let Apple know your thoughts by going to https://apple.com/feedback. You won’t get an answer, but all requests are saved in a database and used for future planning.

When I got in from work I tried what you suggested. It is doing again now many of the things it did the first time. It seems to have wiped and rebooted the phone, and now is downloading settings, contacts, and apps. The visible part of this in the iTunes window was very short. I saw activity in the upper middle bar as you mentioned, in 3 phases that went by in mere seconds. I had a message on the phone itself that the initial setup was complete, and that apps would continue downloading "in the background." A good many of the apps are doing what I refer to as "clock face" where the hand sweeps around the circle showing they are downloading...again. And, some apps I had downloaded this afternoon are gone and will need to be downloaded again.

All this to say, it would seem that it did all of this the first time. I just wish there was a better way of knowing that the job was complete. It really left me in doubt.

Thanks again, Lawrence! Your help has been invaluable and I feel like I'm reaching the end of this process successfully.

Thank you, Pmlyons. I did not see the spinning circle, but I did see the progress bar that you and Lawrence mentioned. If you're interested you can read what happened in the comment right above this one.

Thanks again!
