old MacBook 2006 doesn't boot properly and shuts down on white screen

Hi there,

My old MacBook, late 2006 core 2 duo with osx 10.6 snow leopard, doesn't boot further than the white apple screen and the loading bar, and then shuts down .

It does not support the recovery mode . that's on osx 10.7

So I wanted to start from the snow leopard install cd. but it actually shuts down faster then the cd can start.

same with the original software that came with my MacBook .

It has always worked fine until this happened.

I noticed my battery was swollen so that's broken . I do not leave it plugged in anymore.

I had to change the hard disk some years ago as it dit fail . It has now a samsung hard drive .

I know it's an old Mac. But I do love it and I can't get rid of it . I want to use it as a server or so, so I can put my iTunes library on it at home. or use it for my old music programs.

Is this problem caused by the hard disk ? or because of the failed battery? or something else .

is it worth to put a new HD in?

i have searched on the apple community. but the solutions stated don't seem to work.

Any advice is always welcome

thanks !
