restart the bluetooth service

is there a way to restart the bluetooth service on Catalina, without a reboot? Sometimes I need to reboot, to get the Mac to connect to my AirPods.

Is there a way to turn bluetooth on & off without rebooting every time? Once or twice a week I'm unable to turn bluetooth off or on without rebooting. I've tried all the obvious steps (enabling or disabling via bluetooth icon in the menu bar, and going through the system settings to do it.) From all my research, rebooting is the only way, and that works but it sure is a hassle. I'm hoping there's a way to turn it on or off through Terminal, or to reset the bluetooth service using sysctl or something...anything so I don't have to reboot every time. Any advice? Bluetooth not available after upgrade to Catalina I upgraded to Catalina on my Macbook Pro. Now I can't turn on Bluetooth. My Mac is pretty old (10 years) so it's way past its prime as far as application support, etc. I have a newer Mac so I mostly only use this one for video and music anymore... if I can't connect airbuds, it's essentially useless. Considering downgrading the OS if that's the only option.

my bluetooth on macbook has disapperared from system preferences I am running OS Catalina version 10.15.5 on a MB pro (Mid 2012). I have been using a recently bought pair of AirPods without any trouble until yesterday (possibly coinciding with the update to the latest version of OS). Now my Bluetooth is not working, its has also gone from the Systems Preference. I have tried holding shift option and clicking on the Bluetooth symbol, I get 'Open PacketLogger' but nothing happens when I click on it.

Catalina has a bluetoothd process mentioned in the thread. Maybe you can manage to restart the daemon without rebooting.

Shift-Option on the Bluetooth menu bar icon gives you access to a Debug submenu. There you find a Reset option, though, not a restart.
