I have an Apple Pencil and can’t find a cable to charge it

Hi,

I have an Apple Pencil and can’t find a cable to charge it. Can I just stick it in my phone? Will lt reverse charge ? Where can I get the cable that I guess I lost. Apple doesn’t advertise them anywhere I’ve looked. How do I know what version Pencil I have?

Thanks for anyone that can answer any of these questions.

Charlie

Which iPad and which pencil do you have?

There are two pencils and they charge in different ways

If it's a pencil 1st gen then you can plug it into your iPad or use a cable with the adaptor that comes in the box

If it's a pencil 2nd gen then the only way to charge it is on the iPad Pro.

Charge your Apple Pencil and check the battery - Apple Support

Below are two pics of the pencils so you can tell which one you have

Apple Pencil (2nd generation)

You can use Apple Pencil (2nd generation) with these iPad models:

  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation) and later
  • iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation) and later

Apple Pencil (1st generation)

You can use Apple Pencil (1st generation) with these iPad models:

  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (1st or 2nd generation)
  • iPad Pro 10.5-inch
  • iPad Pro 9.7-inch
  • iPad Air (3rd generation)
  • iPad (7th generation)
  • iPad (6th generation)
  • iPad mini (5th generation)

You don't need an adaptor to charge it.

If you read my post.

Whether you have an pencil 1st gen or 2nd gen both can be charged on the iPad with no need for adaptors or cables

Neither Apple Pencil comes with a charging cable as you don't need one, the 1st gen pencil comes with a lightning adaptor but it is not needed as I said above, both Apple Pencils can be charged on the Ipad so no adaptors or cables needed

Which Apple Pencil do you have?

Thanks

Do you have the iPad Pro 10.5 inch from 2017?

Charge your Apple Pencil and check the battery

Within the above information page it tells you how to charge it

Taken from the above support page -

If you have Apple Pencil (1st generation)

Plug your Apple Pencil into the Lightning connector on your iPad.

You can also charge with a USB Power Adapter by using the Apple Pencil Charging Adapter that came with your Apple Pencil.

Apple Pencil will fast charge when plugged into either power source.

So plug the pencil into the lightning port on the iPad and it will charge, simple as that, no adaptors or cables needed, but there should be a lightning adaptor in the box which allows you to connect it to a lightning cable, but it's not needed as you can just plug into the iPad
