Scam calls

I received a phone call yesterday, from what I thought was an Apple representative. Stating that my iCloud had been breached and in order to fix the problem I needed to go to my settings, click on screen time, click on content and privacy restrictions and turn it on. So I did exactly that. The number was 1-(888)371-9788. I thought it was legit until they started asking about my iMac. I then quickly hung up and changed my settings. The questions I now have is what information can they access? Or what did they have access too? Is there any further precautions I can take?

If all you did was change screen time settings, then you should be fine. All of those settings are for features on your iPhone, and do not open any vulnerabilities up to hackers. To be honest, I have no idea why they would ask you to do that as those features are usually reserved for blocking inappropriate content.


For the future, Apple never phones you to say your iCloud had been breached and will never ask you for any information. If you are not sure, ask them for a Case ID. Your Apple support account will have a list of all past and present cases.
