Share Wifi password message won’t stop showing up.

So I have a MacBook Pro that’s connected to my wifi network. For some reason it keeps asking all my other apple devices for the wifi password even though it’s already connected to it. How can I get my MacBook to stop asking other devices for the wifi password?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

See the problem is that my MacBook is already connected to my wifi network but I keep getting prompts on my iPhone asking me to share the password. Every time I turn my IPhone on while using my Mac it’s sends that prompt. If I press share password it just stays on the sharing loading screen. This has only started happening recently within that last 2 weeks or so.

I would like to keep the share password feature on, but I would like to stop receiving constant prompts from a device that is already connected to the same wifi network.

Hi there august3000,

Thanks for that reply! To confirm, you're connected to Wi-Fi on the Mac, but you're seeing repeated prompts on your iPhone to share the password as though your Mac was not connected, right?

By any chance, do you have both a 5ghz and 2.4ghz Wi-Fi network that might have similar names?

Have you tried restarting your router to see if that helps? If not, give it a try.

If that doesn't help, try clicking System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced. In the Wi-Fi tab, locate your network, click it, and then click the - at the bottom to remove it. Then restart your Mac and re-join the network to see if that clears things up.

Keep us posted.

Cheers.

Hello august3000,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you have a question about a prompt regarding a Wi-Fi password on your MacBook Pro, and we'll be glad to see how we can assist.

What you describe sounds like it might be normal behavior; to clarify, are you seeing prompts on your nearby iOS devices to share the password? This resource covers sharing passwords between devices: Share a Wi-Fi password on Mac

"If you’re signed in to a Wi-Fi network, you can use your Mac to share the password with another person’s nearby Mac, iPhone, or iPad.

  1. Make sure your Mac is unlocked, connected to the Wi-Fi network, and signed in to your Apple ID.
  2. Make sure the other person’s Apple ID is in your Contacts app.
  3. Move the other person’s device close to your Mac.
  4. On the other person’s device, choose the Wi-Fi network.
  5. On your Mac, wait a moment for the the Wi-Fi Password notification to display, then click Share.
  6. If you don’t want to share the password, click Decline."

We hope this helps to clarify! Let us know if you have any questions.

Kind regards.
