Buying movies on iPad, HD or 4k?

How do I make sure, when buying movies through iTunes via an iPad, that I buy the 4k version? I have 4k tv’s at home. When I want to purchase a movie (on my iPad) it says ‘4k’ under the movie title, but max 1080 ‘HD’ in the ‘movie info’ on that same page. It’s confusing. It also doesn’t say on the bill in the email. Just the title. Does anyone know?

Hey Blueriverbaby,

We understand you're purchasing a 4K version of a movie through iTunes, however in the movie info, you're seeing that 1080p is the max resolution.

The likely reason for this is that the movie will only output in the highest resolution available on your device. If you have an iPad which only supports 1080p, then that's what the 4K movie will play at. If you AirPlay it to one of your 4K TVs at home though, it should output in 4K. iPad Pro (11-inch) and iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation) can play 4K directly on the device itself.

Find and watch movies with 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision, or Dolby Atmos

Cheers!
