recover text messages

I deleted a couple texts for my iphone and would like to retrieve them. They are still on my ipad as I share between the two. I backed up my ipad to itunes and icloud to make sure they were stored but I have had no luck getting them back on my iphone. I have tried 3rd party apps like wondershare with no luck. for some reason they are still on ipad. any help, it seems like it should be simple alas it had proven to be anything but simple. Guy
