Decrypting Time Machine Backup Disk

So I decided to decrypt the external hard drive I was using as my time machine backup because the cons heavily outweighed the pros in my experience. however, now I am seeing that my backup disk is decrypting, but my available disk is encrypting. is this normal, and if not, what do I do?

Wait for it to decrypt, which is certain to take days.

Be advised if an unencrypted TM backup disk becomes lost or stolen, or becomes inoperative and is subsequently fixed, it can be used to effectively create a duplicate of the Mac it backed up.

An encrypted disk that fails can simply be discarded without a thought whereas an unencrypted disk must be physically destroyed to ensure its contents cannot be retrieved.

There is no disadvantage to encryption. None whatsoever, unless of course you forget its password. Don't do that.
