Windows iCloud app Photo Options different

I just downloaded the iCloud windows app on a new computer. The selections available after opening Photos options look totally different from the iclouds app on my older computer.

The new computer will be my main computer and I really won't need iCloud installed on my old computer.

Mostly what I want iCloud windows for is so I get downloads to main pc of any new photos on iPhone/iPad.

What would be the best way to set up? And why does the Photo Options on the two seperate app installations look different? See screenshot attachments.

It should work on both computers.

The problem that I see is that you don't have iCloud Photos turned on. See copy of your screenshot below.

The Shared Albums option that you do have selected is only needed if you share albums with other people.

After you do that, new photos should automatically sync. Photos from before you turned it on will need to be manually transferred. There are instructions for that in the "Download your photos and videos from iCloud Photos" section of Set up and use iCloud Photos on your Windows PC - Apple Support

The latest version of iCloud Photos for Windows changed how it works.

Regarding all of the old photos (from before iCloud Photos was turned on in the Windows computer) automatically downloading, that wasn't the case in the prior version but see the following for the current version from If your iCloud Photos aren't loading on your PC - Apple Support

In iCloud for Windows 11.1, optimized versions of all photos and videos automatically download to your PC once you enable iCloud Photos. Open the photo or video to download the full version.

Regarding the location, I don't know of any way to change it. See the following from If your iCloud Photos aren't loading on your PC - Apple Support

* New photos and videos automatically download to your PC at C:\Users\your name\My Pictures\iCloud Photos\Downloads.

Regarding deleting photos from the computer, you used to be able to do that on a Windows PC as it did not sync fully (wasn't possible on Apple devices as they did sync fully) but see the following from If your iCloud Photos aren't loading on your PC - Apple Support

In iCloud for Windows 11.1, photos and videos that you delete from your Apple device or iCloud.com will delete from your PC unless you have chosen to pin them. And when you delete a photo or video on your PC, it will also delete in iCloud Photos.

In short, the new version made significant changes and now operates more like iCloud Photos on Apple devices -- but they aren't, I suspect, likely to be viewed favorably in your case.

I now have ALL of the iCloud Photos coming to my PC which appears to also include the NEW photos I just took last night with my iPhone. BUT, I don't see anywhere that this new app is providing a Downloads folder that shows NEW photos coming in? From what I can see that Download folder has been eliminated (as well as the Upload folder) has been fully removed in this new app?

I've done some research on reinstalling the old App. The below link is a suggestion. Do you see any reason why I should not do this? The old app is running on my older computer just fine.....will Apple/Windows leave it be or is it likely to go updated to new app without me knowing it? How could I prevent that?

Thanks so much for your reply. I was thinking maybe I was on the wrong app because I can't seem to get the app on the new computer to work. I have taken a couple of photos since I installed a separate app but the photos don't arrive at the new app destination. See Screenshot. The photo are downloading to the old computer just fine.

Is there any reason I can't have two apps on different computers and different delivery paths (but same account) working at the same time? Wouldn't iCloud note the new photo and sent a copy to both of the apps? Or, can I only expect a download from one single app? Following is a screenshot of the new app setup. Do you see any settings I might have miss??

At the end of the day I really only need the app on the new computer I speak of.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks so much for your reply and help! This shouldn't be so hard for me but for some reason it is.

I now have iCloud photos turned on and now I see ALL of my iCloud photos in the Pictures>iCloud>Photos folder on my new computer. I see that some as green checked as on my PC and some have blue cloud. I don't need to see any of these photos on my PC. I was afraid to select and say delete all because I don't want to delete them from the iCloud. See screenshot.

All I want to end up with on the new computer via the iCloud Windows App is a automatic download to my PC of any NEW photos from my Apple devices. That is the way it has been working with the old computer and older app version. On the older app I could chose where any NEW photos were placed and they went to the apps iCloud 'download' folder. see screenshot.

I use Adobe photoshop Elements. I already have in my Adobe/PC library all of the photos I want from iCloud. I only want to review NEW photos. If older iCloud photos end up on my PC it will confuse Adobe.

Is there 1) a way I can eliminate the current iCloud photos from my PC yet keep them on iCloud and 2) set a target destination for any NEW photo that are added to iCloud from Apple devices?

Your help is very much appreciated.

the iCloud photos has now been check-marked on the below screenshot

Okay, I'm just trying to figure the best way for me to use.

Question: I have about 7500 photos and 325 videos on iCloud. I have selected the feature "always keep on this device" so I should eventually see a green check mark next to each photo.

I have a iCloud running this way for 24 hours or more and it is still working on downloading. How long should it normally take for a file my size?

See screenshot. Thanks!
