Apple ID recovery

I received a text regarding Apple ID recovery. Why did I receive a text about ID recovery?

Apple ID account recovery So I am trying to understand why I received an email that says an account recovery was made for my Apple ID, but then it said it would be sent to a phone number in a month? But I was using my Apple ID during this whole month?? Did they still give my info out to that person with the # I don’t own?? I’m really confused how they can even suggest that my Apple ID be sent to a # different from the one I use for acct verification? I cannot believe I wasn’t notified more abruptly. This was oct. - nov. last year. I’m worried someone has access to my account but i cannot see nothing in my registered devices or anywhere else. If your Apple ID isn't in the recovery mode, the text may be a scam. Did it have a link for you to click?
