eSim Whatsapp

I have a work iPhone XS and a personal phone and I'm considering porting my personal number onto the XS eSIM to only have to carry one phone. If I only want to use the eSIM personal line data for whatsapp and physical SIM data for everything else, can they be used at the same time? If I'm browsing the internet or streaming music using the physical SIM data, can I receive messages using the eSIM data at the same time? I guess my question would be, can I send/recieve whatsapp messages on eSIM while using data on the other or do I have to manually switch (and cut out the other one) to see if a message has come in?
