Detaching clips

My adjustment layer is attached to a clip. When I move, delete etc. the attached clip, the adjustment layer also moves and/or is deleted. I'd like it hang all by itself, untouched at the top of the storyline not attached to anything. I noticed if i right click and select create storyline, it does seem to do this. Is this the best practice, or should I un-attach another way (and if so, how). Thanks!!

The secondary storyline is also attached to the primary storyline. It, like other clips, default to being connected at its first frame. A common way to fix a clip to the head of the storyline is to attach it to a one frame gap clip. You can also just attach it to the first clip and use other tools to make sure it stays in place when to alter the first clip.
