I can't run my system updates

I have enough space to run the updates, I cleared the system's security to allow the update but every time I hit "restart" after "install updates" my Mac reboots, then very shortly it looks like the updates are being installed but the screen blacks out and I'm asked to log in, only to find out that the updates have not been installed.

Can anyone give me some help here?

I assume you are updating Catalina. First, run First Aid on your startup volume:

Repair the Drive for macOS

Restart the computer. Immediately, at or before the chime, hold down the Command and R keys until the Apple logo and progress bar appear. Wait until the Utility Menu appears.
Select Disk Utility and press the Continue button.
Then select the indented (usually, Macintosh HD) volume entry from the side list.
Click on the First Aid button in the toolbar and wait for the Done button to activate. Click on it, then quit Disk Utility.
Select Restart from the Apple menu.

Second, Download and Install the macOS Catalina 10.15.5 Combo Update. The update takes about as long as performing a fresh installation of macOS, so be patient. The computer may boot several times. That's normal.
