Mac Update Stuck “Checking for updates…”, How to Fix (BigSur to Monterey)

I am unable to update my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Mid 2015/ 3.3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5) to a newer version of macOS. Here are the steps that I have taken so far:

1 - Check your Internet connection ( No issue, connection strong)

2 - Turn your iMac off, then on again (No change, still stuck)

3 - Checked that there is enough storage (185 GB available)

4 - I booted iMac in Safe Mode (No change, still stuck)

5 - I deleted macOS Install data using terminal: (No change, still stuck)

sudo rm -rf "/macOS Install Data"

6 - I reset the Software Update preferences using terminal: (No change, still stuck)

sudo rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist

Does anyone have an ideas that can resolve this issue?

thanks!

There are options available if the newer or newest version of macOS is critical.

If users' pockets are a little light on money

If the user wishes to explore the Apple Trading In option where the Value of the exiting machine could be used against the cost of a new Apple Computer

Have used this method for both Apple Computers and iPhones and has worked well here.

Or Shop Refurbished Apple computers at an Apple Reduced Cost

Have used both previously and have been satisfied each time.

I also initiated:

7 - a NVRAM reset: (No change, still stuck)

Turned on iMac and then immediately pressed the Option + Command + P + R keys, held keys until restarts

8 - I reset the System Management Controller (SMC): (No change, still stuck)

Held down the Control + Shift + Option keys and the “Power” buttons for 10 seconds, then released all four keys simultaneously, restarted my imac
