Where is the Apple documentation about the new Whatnet network?

My Mac is connected to my iPhone with an USB cable to reload the battery of my iPhone.

My iPhone is connected to the Internet through the mobile network, and Personal Hotspot is activated.

My Mac is network connected through my home Wi-Fi network through the interface "Wi-Fi".

Without doing anything special, my current network configuration was modified and a new

network interface named "Whatnet" was added. This interface was also connected without any warning or question.

Without my knowledge my Mac is now connected through a new interface named "Whatnet" falling out of the blue.

Where is the Apple documentation about this new magic network interface?

On the iPhone...

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings > General > About.
  2. Tap Name to change the name of your iPhone's personal hotspot.
  3. Tap About > General > Settings to return to the main list of settings.
  4. Tap Personal Hotspot. If you don't see Personal Hotspot, tap Carrier and you will see it.
  5. Tap the toggle switch to turn on Personal Hotspot.
  6. Tap Wi-Fi Password to change the Wi-Fi Password.

I added again the screen capture explaining the strangely named interface.

Special note to the moderator

Since there is no personnal information in my screen capture,

there is no need to remove it. In the other case I would have been able to mask it.

For example:

172.20.10.5

is a private IP address which is reserved for private network you might find used everywhere

at any home or mobile network.

I appreciated you took care of this potential private information leak.
