POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP Mail Protocols:

This all has to do with the protocol used by the eMail provider for sending/receiving emails: POP3, IMAP4 or SMTP. So, contact your eMail provider, and see which protocol to use for incoming and outgoing mail.
