Air Drop NEVER Works!

Sitting at my desk in front of my iMac (late 2015) with my iPhone SE (2020) -- or my iPad (A1893) -- with Wi-Fi & Bluetooth on for both sides of the transfer and not ONCE does Air Drop work. I cycle Air Drop on & off, Wi-Fi on & off, Bluetooth on & off (phone only as it renders the mouse in operable on the Mac), reboot the Mac, still have never been able to successfully move a file from an iOS device to the Mac. Could never complete using my previous iPhone 6s either.

Don't ever need to transfer the other way, but it doesn't work either, it just says to tell the recipient to turn on Air Drop.

What the heck?

Well, hallelujah, for the first time ever, after the latest Catalina upgrade to 10.15.6, I have successfully transferred a file from my iPhone to my iMac via Air Drop. I did nothing other than my usual Time Machine backup, followed by the upgrade this morning.

I was just getting ready to open a support ticket with Apple, but decided to try one more time to document exact steps. Lo! and behold! it worked! Saw my phone in the Air Drop section of Finder and when I tapped my Mac in Sharing options on the phone, it said "sending" instead of "waiting". Took a god-awful long time -- from iPad to iPhone is nearly instantaneous -- but it actually sent & did eventually ping a delivery notification on the Mac. Amazing!

@den.thed: Appreciate the response, but I've had no success with any of the tricks in those various places, except that I haven't done the "nuclear" option of deleting/resetting Bluetooth connections on my iMac. Since mouse & keyboard are both Bluetooth, once it's off, how am I supposed to "click" it back on, eh? I suppose I'll have to get a USB mouse & try that as well.

I've been through several MacOS upgrades, as I keep all my devices up-to-date, so that's not it. The iMac has never received via Air Drop, no matter what I try. My iPhone & iPad can Air Drop back & forth all day, but that's of no practical use. The Mac has the mega-storage, so I want to move things there routinely. It's shameful that I have to resort to cloud storage to shuffle things around.
