It's good to hear back from you, CSL20trew.

Let's make sure these other settings are correct as well.

With Finder open, click on View in the top menu, then select Show View Options. Make sure "Show icon preview" is selected.

Next, with Finder open, select one of the files but do not open it. Does the file preview now show as expected?

This information is found, here: macOS User Guide: Use the Preview pane in the Finder on Mac

Thanks!

Hi, CSL20trew!

Are these particular files stored inside a parent folder? If so, let's have you go up one level and select the parent file where these are kept. From there, you'll want to turn on the same settings that you did for the individual file.

  • Open Finder, click on View in the top menu, then select Show View Options. Make sure "Show icon preview" is selected.

Also, are all file types affected or is it just the ones associated with Adobe Illustrator? It's possible that if these files types have Illustrator set as the default application, their previews may only show the app icon.

In order to test that, you can select one file, and change the default program it is associated with. Then select the file to see if the preview appears as expected. If it does, this could be expected with Adobe's programs.

Let us know if that works.

Hey there, CSL20trew!

Where are you trying to view the thumbnails? Is this in Finder? If yes, are these items that are in the process of being downloaded from another source?

If you're using Finder, navigate to the folder that contains the items you wish to preview. On the top menu bar, click on View > Show Preview. That should open up a small sidebar on the right side that will show you a preview of each item as you select it.

Have a great rest of your day!

Hi sterling r,

I can see the preview image for Word and PDF files (saved using Adobe Acrobat) but not the Adobe Illustrator images. I have tried what you suggested and attached a screenshot. After changing the default to Preview I closed down Finder and when I relaunched I still can only see the Preview logo as the icon. Please let me know what you would suggest to do next

Thanks for your help :)

Hi sterling r, we have tried doing as suggested with the parent file, and compared View options for an Adobe Illustrator file here we can't se the preview image and for a PDF file in Adobe Acrobat where we can see a preview of the PDF and made the settings the same as the PDF file however this did not solve the issue.

It is only Adobe Illustrator files where I cannot see the preview image.

This only happened after I downloaded the Catalina update. I have looked on other forums and seen that other users have the same issue, no one seems to have found the solution.

Thanks
