Two separate default printer settings?

We have 2 printers that we use regularly - one is colour A4 for regular office documents and the other is an A1 printer for printing architect’s plans.  I'd like to set up different default settings for each printer so that when I need to print out some plans I select the A1 printer and it remembers that I want to print from the A1 paper roll (not the A4 option) in black & white, draft quality.  When I want to print a normal office document I'd like to send it to our other printer to print A4 in colour, standard quality.  At the moment my default printer is the A4 one but if I want to print plans I manually select the A1 printer and then have to change all the settings - paper source, colour/B&W, paper size, print quality.  Is it possible to set up two different printers with their respective defaults?  Having looked in Printer Settings it appears that I can only have one ‘Default’ setting that includes which printer and all of it’s settings.

Any help much appreciated. =o)

Hi Smoggy291,

It sounds like you're looking to save printer settings to use later. We'd recommend taking a look at adding a preset for your printers. You can find the steps and additional information in the user guide here:

Save your Mac print settings to use later

You should also be able to name the presets for easier access.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

Thanks for that, it definitely helps. =o)

The only thing it doesn't do is, when I change printer it doesn't automatically change to my saved settings for it. For example, I was printing some A4 invoices and then needed to print out a set of A1 plans. I switched to the A1 printer but also had to remember to change to the new (saved) preset. It would be really great if it changes to the saved settings I always use when sending plans to the A1 printer. If this isn't possible then it's not the end of the world but there are times when my pea-sized brain forgets to change printer settings (even though I change between printers) and I end up printing with the wrong preset. =o/
