Connect to iTunes Error on iPad 2

Received error on iPad to connect to iTunes. I have since connected to iTunes and attempted to update/restore iPad. During the update process I receive "error 53". I have made sure that the MacBook Air I am using is up to date as well as iTunes. Any suggestions?
