using USB Superdrive

I just bought an apple USB Superdrive to use with my 2019 Macbook pro catalina OS 15. I am trying to hook it up and watch a dvd. No, I cannot figure this out! It says to connect to a usb port. Where the heck is that? I have to have a special FCCE RoHS to have any ports. The end of the cord on the superdrive doesn't fit into anything on the computer itself, only the extra contraption. Help. My knowledge is very basic.

MacBook Pro 15”, macOS 10.15

no sweat, MellowMarcy. Wouldnt want to harsh your mellow.

your 2019 macbook pro has but 2 ports/sockets.both of which are

thunderbolt 3 which supports lots of stuff, but not usb 2 or 3. So the answer is simple

buy an adapter that has usb-c plug on one end and usb 2 or 3 socket on the other end.plug usb superdrive into usb 3 socket on one end.shut down 2019 macbook pro. Connect other end of adapter into 1 socket of 2019 macbook pro. Press power button to turn it on. Insert disc into slot of usb superdrive. It should now work. You may wish to buy in future a usb-c dock with active usb c socket in it, one that will deliver 85 watts or more

thats it

I no type more—bad right arm and hand

hmm🤓🤓.....dunno..let me look into that for you,Marcy. Apparently it works in catalina 10.15.2... i Presume you have show cd’s and dvd’s checked off under Finder Preferences, also check under system preferences, then, CDs and DVDs,E.g. what do you want your Mac to doWhen you insert either a blank CD or DVD, orA Music/picture/Or video DVD, other than That, I suggest using a cleaning discOn the USB SuperDrive, or doing an SMC/pmu reset and zap pram on your MacBook Pro 2019, try starting up in safe mode, shift key held down on start up. Does the problem reoccur when you do that?

it may not be much but it’s all I have for now, other than checking your version of Catalina.

well I followed the directions to a T and the superdrive just does not accept any discs. So frustrated. Can't spend the time yet on the phone or whatever to figure this out but what was wrong with cd/DVD players in the first place??? Why does everything get more complicated and extra work? I am wondering what to do next besides return all of the 3 extra devices I bought in order to see a dvd?
