Over an hour sitting on silver screen with apple in center and progress bar showing about 1/8-inch progress. Nothing happening as far as I can see. How much longer do I wait and what do I do if it never gets beyond this point?
I left the room while downloading of the update was going on and came back to see the above screen so it could be even longer than the 80 minutes I've been looking at this screen.

After waiting 24 hours for the updating to complete, I did contact Apple Support. They assisted me with a solution to the problem (which was also in the article you cited).

trying to update from 10.15.5 to 10.15.6 may be frozen
