My Siri Apple remote only works when it is plugged in and charging, has anyone else had this proble?

Did you charge it from a computer or wall outlet with power adapter, as recommended? Other USB power sources may not provide enough juice to recharge the battery.
Did you charge it with the undamaged supplied Lightning USB cable? Damaged-but-sort-of-working cables or Non-MFi certified Lightning imitation cables can damage the battery, e.g. by overcharging, causing a shortened battery lifetime.
