I'm trying to upgrade to Catalina from Sierra. When I select download in the app store, nothing happens. I have rebooted my machine, I have closed apps, and I have deleted most of my documents and photos to create more space. Still no luck. I need to upgrade in order to use the Final Cut Pro X trial. Please help. Thanks!

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
Try the standalone in Safe Mode, but not using Firefox...
