Apple Watch doesn’t record GPS data

Hi all,

I’ve seen a few posts about this problem and believe I understand this issue. This is regarding when you go for a longish run (or cycle) and when you get back your watch has recorded the time spent, but not the GPS data (map / route etc.).

The reason is that the watch is full and cannot save the GPS file on the watch. Sadly it means you’ve lost the GPS data for that run/ride. The solution is either resetting the watch (which does take AGES.... you need to sort that out Apple!) or deleting apps etc. off the watch. Then, next time you go out it will be ok and it will save the GPS file.

Cheers,

Andy

To free storage space on  Watch -

Using the Watch app on the paired iPhone, unpair the watch. Then repair the watch. Doing so frees up storage space by deleting temporary files, corrupted files and then reindexing the filing system.

This doesn't normally take ages if this is what you meant. Especially if you restore the watch from a backup. You will usually free up at least half again what space you had before unpairing.
