Portable backup battery for iPad Pro

Can I charge my iPad Pro (11 inch, 2020) from a backup battery that only has USB-A ports? If no, why not?

Hi Lisa Dickey,

Thanks for your post! We understand you want to know if you can charge your iPad with a backup battery that supports USB-A. Yes, you would just need a USB-A cable with a USB-C connector.

You can find some here: USB-C to USB Adapter

Best regards.

Hi jessed39,

Thanks for your response to my question. Unfortunately I’ve tried what you suggested and it does not work. I’m not sure why because I think it should work.

I purchased the Apple USB-C to USB adapter. It plugs into the USB-C port on the iPad. I then purchased a USB-A to USB-A cable. I plugged one end into the adapter and the other end into the battery. Nothing happens.

I can use the same battery to charge iPhones and older iPads with a USB-A to Lightning cable, so I don’t think anything is wrong with the battery or its USB ports.

I can even plug a USB-A to Lightning cable into the USB-C to USB adapter and charge my iPhone from the iPad Pro, so I’m pretty sure the adapter is working correctly, at least in that direction.

Does anyone know if charging the iPad is supported through that adapter?

Thanks for your assistance!
