I have my deceased brothers I phone, how can i start using it? i replaced the battery and screen

I have an I phone 8 plus that Im locked out of. any suggestions on how i can get access to it? It belonged to my to my deceased brother -n- law,I replaced the screen and battery but cant get passed his email which i don't know.
