Disabling currently opened files/apps from Dock

How do I prevent Mac from showing my currently opened files and apps from Dock (see attached picture). When I have like six Word files, ten excel files and ten other programs open, the dock is full of stuff I don't want to see. What to do? The only thing I want to see is the trash bin.

So you have minimised this items/ files to your Dock.

Open System Preferences> Dock and check the box next to Minimise windows into Application icon.

Now when you minimise items/ files they will disappear into their corresponding app icon.
