How to disable events when hovering over a dates? (in PDFs open with Skim, for example)

Hi,

I have a PDF open in Skim which shows mathematical formulas that I record. Whenever I hover over a fraction such as 1/11, a thin grey frame with a small grey arrow shows up (which is annoying when recording a math lecture). How can I disable this feature?

If I click on the grey arrow, I see that Calendar wants to add an event for January 11, but I don't use Calendar and I checked its preferences, there doesn't seem to be a way to disable these automatic event suggestions. If I right-click in the frame, I also see that macOS (here: 10.15.6; skim version: 1.5.11) is suggesting "Create Event", "Create Reminder" and "Show This Date in Calendar...", so I assume it has something to do with Calendar/Mail/Siri/automatic events. Note that I don't use any of the latter macOS programs (e.g. Mail is not even set up), so I wonder where this comes from.

I attached two screenshots: one showing the grey frame and arrow around "1/11". And one showing that Calendar (?) suggests to create a new event when clicking the arrow.

What you see are Data Detectors in action, and if this were an Apple application, there would be a Substitutions menu item on the Edit menu where you could disable Data Detectors. For some reason, Skim 1.5.11 (on Catalina, as this is not an issue on Mojave), is allowing Data Detectors with no means to disable them, as the relevant menu item, or setting is missing.

I see no means on Catalina 10.15.6 (19G2021), external to Skim v1.5.11, that would allow one to disable Data Detectors in this version of Skim.

One cannot disable data detectors in Catalina's Preview 11.0 either. On the otherhand, the current Adobe Acrobat Reader DC does not have this data detection issue, because it is not based on Apple's PDFKit framework used by Preview and Skim.

I reported this to Skim as a bug. It was turned into a feature request and it was mentioned that this is a bug from Apple's side. See https://sourceforge.net/p/skim-app/feature-requests/1595/

Hi,

Thanks for helping.

Siri is disabled. Even if I enable it (or not), the 'Show Siri Suggestions in App' were already turned off (for all apps actually, so Calendar, Mail etc.). So the problem must be caused by something else.
