Question

login 'blink'

When I turn on and start up, half way through the bar my screen goes black and then reappears and starts up as per usual. I have contacted support and we have reinstalled catalina but alas, it is still doing it. I'd like to know what it is doing from a security point of view otherwise my imac operates just fine. Is there a line by line method of showing the startup and seeing just where this is occurring? Please note - am not really all that tech savvy!

You can run EtreCheck and post the report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper. The contributors here can examine the report to see if you may have any software installed that may be causing a problem.

You can try booting into Safe Mode which disables unnecessary startup & login items.

Uninstall Avast by following the developer's instructions. AV software is not needed on a Mac and it usually causes more problems than it solves plus it impacts system performance. See if this solves the problem.

Make sure all of your other apps are completely up to date.

That's normal. My iMac gets to about ¾ thru the progress bar and goes black. lt comes back at the same location and completes the boot process. It takes about 25-30 seconds from power-on to the Desktop appearing.

thanks! I've run the check and here's what it has said (btw went through a safe mode start up with the engineer but he said it was all ok. Have done a full new install of catalina). I have no idea what this report is telling me!
