Is there any way to arrange for a notification or alarm to the devices of "friends" when an iPhone travels beyond a set distance from a "base" location?

If they are friends that show up in Find My select their name, under Notifications select Add, select Notify Me, select When Friend Leaves, Add the location that you want as the "base" location, then uncheck the option for Only Once if you want the notification every time. Note that the Friend will receive an alert that you are receiving notifications about their status.

I just tested it on my device and you I can't uncheck it either.
It looks like if you select to have your friend notified when you arrive or leave a location then you have the options of "only once" or "every time." So it sounds like your friend would need to set it up on their device to have it notify you every time.
You have the correct solution, but we misunderstood the option from the phone. "Only Once" apparently means that the phone notifies me one time - each time my friend leaves the perimeter, which is sufficient, not that it must be reset after every exit. Thank you very much.
I want the notification every time but I'm unable to uncheck the option for Only Once. Have you any suggestions?
When you uncheck "only once" that means you will get the notification every time.
I do want it every time but it won't uncheck.
