Have a new iPad.

I have set up my iPad but can't get the mail to work. iPhone and iMac are both getting mail fine.

iPad, iPadOS 13

Perhaps delete - and re-add the email account(s) - on your iPad:

Add an email account to your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support
