is there any other way to unlock my ipad?
I have an old ipad that I need to get photos off of that I can't remember the passcode to - is there any way I can open my iPad without erasing all content? please advise!

There is not.
If there were, a passcode would not offer much security.
Hopefully you backed up those photos and they’re not primarily stored in that old iPad.
