Phishing calls

I received repeated calls from (408) area code #'s which when I answered said it was Apple Support calling about an issue identified with my icloud account. I pressed "1" and it took me to a support person. I ended up speaking with 2 individuals. I connected with them on my Imac through gotoassistant. They looked at my system.log and they sent me an email to my email account with the case id# and a link. They said they were going to have their team investigate further and call me back in the morning. Based on researching this online I'm worried this was a phishing scam.

I didn't reveal passwords or logins but am worried if they could have accessed something confidential if this was not legitimate.

Hello Bricas77,

It sounds like you got a random call saying it was Apple Support regarding an iCloud account issue and you gave them access to your iMac. This does sound like a Phishing call, Apple will not call you for an issue, unless it is a follow up call for an issue you already reported. Check out this link for support with Security concerns.

Since they were given access to your computer it is possible they have downloaded some malware on to your device. There are a few steps you can try to remove any malware on your device.

  • Check System preferences for a Profile.

System Preferences> Profiles, remove all unknown profiles. If you do not see profiles then you do not have any installed.

  • Download MalwareBytes

MalwareBytes - Free Download

  • Restart your Mac

Log out, sleep, restart, or shut down your Mac

After restart and deleting the app, you shoud try running MalwareBytes again, just to be safe.

Cheers!
