As you are on macOS Sierra Disk Utility then there is no View option in the menubar, this only came in with macOS High Sierra.

Just open Disk Utility, elect the Disk (Apple SSD SM01…) not the indented Volume and click on Erase.

Give the Disk a name

Format : Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

Scheme: GUID Partition Map

Click Erase.

Once Done quit Disk Utility.

Then try Reinstall macOS and see how you get on.

Can you highlight either the Apple SSD SM01… or the OS X Base System Volume and see if the Mount button becomes available. If it does become available then press Mount. If you can get the Disk to Mount, then it should be available

to Erase as described above.

If that does not work then you will have to try installing OS from a bootable USB stick.

You will have to use another mac for this, and it will have to be a mac that is capable of running macOS Sierra.

How to upgrade to macOS Sierra - Apple Support

Go to Section 4 and click on Download macOS Sierra.

This downloads InstallOS.dmg to your Downloads folder.

The next section can only be done on a mac that is capable of running Sierra,

a mac that came preinstalled with an OS later than Sierra will refuse to do the next bit.

When downloaded open to InstallOS.pkg, double-click on

that and an installation window will open, this does not install Sierra

but converts the InstallOS.pkg to the Install macOS Sierra.app which

you will find in your Applications folder.

(If the installation window asks which disk you want to install to, you must pick

the disk that you are booted to at the time. Not any internal or external disk that

you want to eventually install Sierra on, that is for later.)

Having completed the process above and now have the Install macOS Sierra.app

in the Applications folder you should now be ready to create a bootable USB installer.

Usually this would be quite a simple process using the instructions here,

How to create a bootable installer for macOS – Apple Support

However, there is one more obstacle to overcome, when Apple rewrote the Install macOS Sierra.app

with its new certificates in October 2019, they made a mistake which creates an error message in Terminal

and stops the creation of the Sierra USB installer. Apple were made very aware of the situation and to date

10 months later have not bothered to sort it out.

Follow this workaround,

With Install macOS Sierra.app in your Applications folder open Terminal.

Paste in this command

sudo plutil -replace CFBundleShortVersionString -string "12.6.03" /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sierra.app/Contents/Info.plist

press return

enter your password

press return

now paste in the createinstallmedia command for Sierra where MyVolume can be replaced with the name of your USB stick

If your USB name has more than one word separated by spaces you would need to type it in as

/The\ USB\ Name

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sierra.app

press return

follow the prompts

Right, so you manage to create the bootable USB installer using the instructions I gave you.

Have you then plugged in the bootable USB to your ill mac and booted to that.

Before you try to install macOS Sierra you need to Erase and reformat the Disk.

Boot to the USB installer, select Disk Utility from the Utilities panel.

Click Continue.

Highlight the Apple SSD ....... and click Erase.

Give the Disk a name.

Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

Scheme: GUID Partition Map.

Click Erase.

Once that is done then try installing the OS.

Did you use another mac to download the InstallOS.dmg as instructed.

Did you then open that to the InstallOS.pkg as instructed.

Did you then double-click on the InstallOS.pkg, if you did you would have

seen an installation window as was described in my original instructions.

If you followed my instructions and the prompts in the installation window

you will now find in the Applications folder of the mac the Install macOS Sierra.app.

Now if you go back to my original instructions, and this time follow them

you will go through the process to create the bootable USB as described.

Helps to read the instructions offered to you.
