Text Edit glitched one day, and often since. Ever since the glitch, the color pallette has been huge and there seems to be no way to put it back to its correct size. I've attatched a screen shot of my whole screen - look how big the pallette is! Can anyone help?

What happens if you click on the upper-right corner of the color palette, and then drag diagonally towards the lower-left corner? Does the palette reduce in size? If so, when you save your TextEdit document and quit TextEdit, does the color palette remember its resizing when you use the application again?
No video appeared, and I don't have Sierra running anywhere to experiment further. On High Sierra or later, the colorpicker allows one to click in opposite NE/SW or NW/SE corners, or N/S axis of the pane, and drag to resize it.
That's so weird that the video won't load. It is fully uploaded to Youtube and the link is correct... but then, quite a few people, even experts, have had trouble getting images and videos onto Apple discussions lately... I will try one more time, pasting it into the body of the text instead.
Re OS versions, I've been using TextEdit colour pickers since about 1998 (if I remember right) or at least since the beginning of the 2000's. Never had trouble with it before on any version of OSX to the present day.... And it was fine on Sierra until that glitch. I'm dreading having to reinstall my OS, but it may come to that, since Quicktime and Preview have started misbehaving too.

OMG you're a genius! I went to the colour wheel, which turned out to still have its resizing function intact. So when I shrank that back to scale, suddenly the resize on the pencil picker came back to normal. You've made my day.

If you click on another display type than Pencils does that change things?

The diagonal resizing function is gone. Only vertical - see little screen recording attached.
Saving, quitting, disk first aid, recovery startup, nothing has fixed it so far.
I attached a youtube video showing my problem, but I can't see any sign that it appeared here! Do you see it?
