Cannot connect to Email account

I added my email to apple email, and it always disconnects, it has a symbol like a thunder next to my email, if I click it, it says "can't connect to the account, enter the password for user account", I entered the email password, it didn't work, then I entered my computer password, it didn't work either, anyone can help me with this? I have been having this problem for a couple of years, couldn't resolve. Thank you!

Hi,


  1. compare settings for both accounts in the Mail>Preferences (⌘,) (COMMAND+COMMA) see image below, Username and Password will differ but the rest should be the same. Look carefully at spellings.
  2. check password for the non working account and that the email address is correctly input.
  3. check the non working account in the webmail on a browser just to ensure it is actually working correctly.



also ensure the account is enabled in the Account Information tab.

Can you let us know, without posting your actual email address who you use for email services?


There area specific settings that need to be input in order for your Mail client to connect to the servers where you email is hosted.


Apple has a special service called iMap for email but most older services use POP3/SMTP. We need to know which of these your email service uses.
