trying to backup iphone onto computer

I'm using iTunes but when I click 'backup phone" I get an error message saying that the previous history file is corrupt and to delete it under "devices prefrences"and try again, but there is no file to delete because this phone has never been backed up to this computer. What's going on here?

Try Edit > Preferences > Devices > Reset Sync History.

See Locate backups of your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support and delete any folders that might be inside the ..\MobileSync\Backup folder.

Thank you so much for the advice and the link to finding iPhone backups. I followed the directions, was able to find the old backups and deleted them, and tried the backup again. It did the same thing saying that the old backup was corrupted so I decided to uninstall iTunes and reinstall it and that did the trick.
