Lines along 2017 MacBook Pro 13” screen

Today I noticed these lines for the first time. I haven’t used my MacBook much over the past 3 years and it’s been kept in perfect condition. The lines are within the display, and are still there regardless of application/background image. What’s the cause of this and how can I fix it?

Display issues or GPU ?

A screen shot bypasses the display, coming directly from the GPU.


Also you can test with an external monitor... If the GPU is failing you will see it in the external screen as well.


Either way you can try Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

You have a display issue or projector cable issue associated with that display.


If you have Applecare+ extended warranty you can have it repaired much more reasonably.

I have heard of third party computer repair shops simply replacing the projector cable(?) Shop around.

Similar post with these artifacts got their screen replaced to resolve the issue..

you can arrange to have your Mac sent in for service. If your warranty has expired the cost is under US$800.



All you can do is take it in and have it repaired.

At this time, there is no Service Program for this 15" issue of the projector cable, or the 2017 MBP.


Typically in the past if Apple does release a Service Program, they have offered a refund for out of pocket expense parts & labor for the exact issue covered.


Service Programs are triggered by the percentage of all MBP of this spec vs the number of failures documented.

We are not privy to this %, or have any more insight.

An alternative work-a-round for you is to connect to an external monitor if you can not afford the repair price.

It's very disappointing to hear that no support is currently available for this 13" model when it is definitely a known issue. I don't have apple care. I'm based in Australia and with covid restrictions our Apple stores are all closed.


Looks like I'm stuck with working with it the way it is. Mac's certainly aren't what they used to be. My last MacBook Pro lasted 12 years with no issues. For the price I expect better.
