How do you make a shopping appointment at Apple store

You don't. There is no way to make appointments for shopping, nor do you need to make one. Appointments are only for service.

Just go to a store, and tell them you want to buy something.

You have two options: On your computer go to https://apple.com/retail, search for and find the store you want to go to, and there will be a link to make an appointment. The other way is to go to Shop with a Specialist - Apple, fill out the details, and it will present a list of stores that you can choose from. This is only useful if you have several nearby stores, of course. I use it because I have 3 within a reasonable driving distance.

You click this link—>Shop with a Specialist - Apple or use the Apple Store app on your phone-Tap Shop, then scroll down and tap Reserve a shopping session.

My Mistake. I had noticed this option within the Apple Store app on IOS. Open the app, select "shop" and scroll down to the bottom where you see "Nearby Stores" and just below this "Reserve a shopping session". You may book within a 3 day window (on my phone at least).

Sorry, I made that post before Apple enabled the option to make an appointment. At that time it was correct, and as such recommended by Apple. This is no longer the case as things can change in 3 months.

You can go to hhttps://www.apple.com/retail/instore-shopping-session/ now to set up an appointment.

Shop with a Specialist appointments launched sometime this year. Simply go to apple.com, scroll to the bottom and click "Find a Store," enter the information for the store you would like to visit, select "Reserve a shopping session".

Note that stores only have a small number of specific models in stock; if you want a Mac that isn’t one of those specific models or that has added features they will have to order it for you. In general, the models on the Apple website are the ones that you can walk out of the store with. Go here →Mac - Apple and click on the model you are interested in, or click on Compare if you are unsure. If the model is listed the store will probably have it.

Yes. It currently required to set up a shopping appointment. When I answered that originally back in August of last year, there was no way to make a shopping appointment. Now there is and is required.
