Since August 19th Apple has implemented the shopping appointments.

You can set one up through the Apple Store app on your iPhone or iPad, or here: Shop with a Specialist - Apple

I just took a second look and after reading the one section on the web site for the McLean VA store it says this.

We’re open and look forward to welcoming you. Shop by walking in, reserving a one-on-one session with a Specialist or buy online and pickup in store. Get support at the Genius Bar in store or by making a reservation. Health and safety measures may be in place based on local conditions. Questions about safety measures at our stores? See FAQs.
How can we help you?

I missed the blurb stating that you can walk in now and don’t need an appointment. I wholeheartedly agree that it behooves people to make a reservation so that they don’t have to wait.

  1. Can you only register for same-day appointments through the website or app?
  2. When does the registration open for a day (if they only take the same-day appointments)? After midnight? 5 am?

I tried to make an appointment for today, but it is all booked, and I can't make one for tomorrow or the next day. It simply will not let me proceed because I cannot select my store. Thank you!

Have you actually tried to visit an Apple store? They do exactly as you suggest. They limit the number of people (by requiring appointments), wear masks, and stay 6 feet apart. And with the restrictions you suggest the stores are FULL, and even have a line outside the store of people with appointments, waiting for shoppers to leave after finishing their appointments.

A few days ago I was in Manhattan and walked by the flagship Fifth Avenue store (the one pictured below). There was a line about a city block long of people with appointments, and the store was absolutely full of people 6 feet apart, wearing masks. However, a few blocks away the Microsoft store had more staff than customers. So maybe you should get a Windows phone.

That isn’t how it works. Click on the link in the post just above your post.

You should never put your telephone number in a public internet site, you are asking for more spam calls. I’ll ask the hosts to remove it.

Also, I would hold off buying a new watch until after the upcoming Apple event on Tuesday, September 15, 2020.

You should always buy the phone that best meets your needs. If that's an Android phone, that's what you should buy. I personally recommend Motorola phones. Great battery life, very little bloatware. And no history of exploding that I'm aware of. Also, never buy a really low end Android-based phone, regardless of manufacturer. They are almost always a poor experience and rarely get updates.

Threats don't work here. If you want to buy an android, buy an Android nobody will stop you. I doubt stores selling them will have less of a wait time if they are the brand new $1200 dollar models.

Due to the ongoing Pandemic some stores have decided to require an appointment to purchase a device to keep the people inside to a minimum and avoid spreading of the Covid virus as much as possible.

Its expected there will be wait times.

You are of course free to order online and get it delivered to your home in a few days. No lines, no waiting outside, no appointments.

You may not have noticed, but there is a world-wide pandemic that is affecting life everywhere. It is probably the worst disaster worldwide since World War II. Over 1 million people worldwide have died from it, 20% or 1/5 of them in the US. Yet the US has only 4% of the world’s population (308 million US, 7.8 billion worldwide), which makes the US the most dangerous place in the world for infections. And infection rates are currently going UP in the US from a low a couple of months ago.

Having to stand online to spend $1,200 is a very minor inconvenience compared to the impact the coronavirus has had on the vast majority of people living in the US, such as the 8% unemployed compared to 3.6% one year ago, millions of families evicted or forclosed, most of whom can't even afford a flip phone, let alone a smartphone.

Think about how lucky you are only having to wait a couple of hours.
