How do I delete legacy system extensions that are no longer needed?

Every time I install a system update, I get a notification that there is legacy software installed which is no longer supported. I did a search and attempted to delete it but some of the files can't just be dragged to the trash. My iMac's performance is not great and I'm trying to clean things up. Advice?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.15

If the notification specifically says "legacy extensions." you need to do nothing.

Only developers can fix that and it will not be an issue until the next version of OSX. Attempting to delete some extension now can made some of your apps unusable. Even some critical Apple processes still rely on extensions today. Removing them today could leave you with a non-working computer.

Download and enable full device access for and run EtreCheck. Then open a new reply here and then press the button that looks like a printed page to get a text input box big enough to paste the hardware and software configuration report here.

If you do not have a current and complete backup, go get that first. This as one of the potential causes for a slow Mac is failing storage. And having a backup is the best and can be the only path to the recovery of your data and your settings.
