If you intended to restore your Mac to its original, "out of the box" state, you're doing it right because erasing it completely is required as a first step.


The next step is to reinstall macOS: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple Support. That will restore your ability to start that Mac as though it had never been used before.


The whole procedure from start to finish is described here: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac. Step 1 is to create a backup, which for the purposes of this reply I assume you did not perform.
