WiFi keeps clicking off when it goes dark.

By “clicking-off”, are you suggesting that your WiFi does not reconnect automatically when you wake the iPad? If so, your WiFi settings need to be modified...

For your iPad to automatically connect to your WiFi:

Settings > WiFi > [Your WiFi Network Name / SSID] - tap the “i” icon - Auto Join - set to ON

That's how it's supposed to work unless you are doing something which requires a Wifi connection, like streaming music as an example. Now, when your iPad is plugged in and connected to Wifi, Wifi does not disengage. But your iPad is designed on purpose to disconnect when the iPad is NOT plugged in and the screen locks.
