Yamaha P-35 music keyboard connect to MacBook Air 2015 fail

Hi all, I got a yamaha keyboard P-35 and she's with me for a period of time. I got a MacBook Air 2015 and wish to connect them via Garageband with a MIDI-USB cable.

Dunno why there is no signal, and seems Garageband cannot initialise the driver.

But the same cable did connect the Yamaha P-35 keyboard with a 2017 MacBook Pro(Touch Bar) successfully. Garageband can detect and able to make a recording.

Both MacBook OS in Catalina 10.15.6.

while the MB-Air is in traditional USB-A port and I did use other devices to confirm the USB is intact, it works fine.

Wonder anyone has a solution?

Many thanks.

Hey there Iris_the_rose,

It sounds like you're having some issues with your Yamaha Keyboard and your MacBook Air (2015). We enjoy being creative with our Macs, and understand the concern. Let's see how we can help!

First, make sure the MIDI device shows as connected in System Information (remember that if the keyboard is connected via an interface, the interface is the device to look for).

Look for System info here: About System Information on your Mac

Second, let's check to make sure your MIDI drivers are up-to-date from the manufacturer's website.

Keep us posted on your results.

Cheers.
